Principal's Bio
George Hu, P.E., LEED AP Download Resume
George is a mechanical engineer with expertise in engineering HVAC
systems for buildings of all types. He has over 15 years of experience in
the field of HVAC systems engineering and analysis, including
geothermal HVAC systems, or ground source heat pump (GSHP)
systems. His past experience included engineering of HVAC systems for
large and small residential, institutional, laboratories, health-care,
pharmaceutical and corporate facilities, for both public and private clients.
Before founding AWE, George worked as an HVAC project engineer and
then an associate at Bard, Rao + Athanas Consulting Engineers, a
project manager and associate at AHA Consulting Engineers. He has
worked closely with architects and building owners on many large and
small projects, from conceptual design through construction and
building occupancy. George has analyzed and resolved numerous
engineering issues either on the drawing during design, or in the field
during construction, or operation problems after occupancy.
Via academic background as well as real project experiences, George is
also proficient with energy modeling to help architects to test their design
(e.g., building envelope, lighting, daylighting), or helping engineers make
energy efficient design decisions, or for the goal of pursuing LEED
certification for building projects (Energy and Atmosphere prerequisites
and credits), or for pursuing utility rebates.
George is a professional engineer registered in Connecticut,
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine,
Pennsylvania, and New York. He is a member of the American Society of
Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, and a LEED
accredited professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. He is also a
Certified GeoExchange Designer (CGD) by The Association of Energy
Engineers and International Ground Source Heat Pump Association
(AEE / IGSHPA). George holds a Bachelor's degree of Engineering from
Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a Master's degree
of Science in Building Technology from Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.
