I worked with AWE on a large residential project in Texas with many physical, climatological and aesthetic constraints. AWE provided excellent services. They were responsive, dedicated and collaborative, and took on the challenges we faced with enthusiasm. The result was a sophisticated mechanical system carefully and sensitively integrated into the architecture. George Hu is passionate about environmentally responsible heating and cooling technologies, and he brings this dedication and energy to bear on every project. His firm was an invaluable member of our design team and I look forward to having the chance to work with them again.

AWE provided MEP design services for our residential project, which featured a geothermal well system and an indoor pool. George’s experience helped guide us during every stage of design and, due to his responsiveness and thorough grasp of the tasks at hand, working with him was an effortless process. He has furthermore shown us his commitment to the long-term performance of his designs, remaining dialed-in to the project after occupancy. AWE was a very strong asset to our team, and I sincerely hope to work with them again on future projects.
I welcome the opportunity to provide a recommendation to anyone considering
working with AWE.

George Hu and his team were able to translate complex engineering into workable solutions. As a developer I knew it would be a risk to be a pioneer with the first shared “utility” model of geothermal. 2 years later the system is performing to specifications and the homes are comfortable and the heating and cooling is reliable. We are very happy with the work George did to design these systems and I would not hesitate to recommend him for future developments and projects. During the most difficult times of the install, George was able to make suggestions and modifications to the plans to work-around unanticipated field condition issues. To provide a tight site with 45 tons of heating and cooling capacity was a challenge and I think George accomplished it in the most simple and elegant way possible.

George Hu made our aspirations his aspirations for green design of the renovation and expansion of the historic Carnegie library in Athol. His firm, AWE Engineers, was a member of the Tappé Associates library design team. In his role, George was reliable, cooperative and responsive, and brought expertise and enthusiasm to our effort to attain the highest certification possible for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. In addition, he successfully completed a feasibility study of stand-alone and innovative district-style geothermal utilities for heating, ventilation and air conditioning for the library and adjacent Town Hall. His mechanical systems design provided the library with flexibility to become even more energy efficient in the future. His work will help our town achieve its energy use reduction goals and demonstrate its commitment as a Green Community to a sustainable energy future.

Tsoi/Kobus & Associates worked together with George Hu of AWE on the Duke (University) Cancer Center, in Durham, NC, a very complex, LEED(v2.2) Gold-certified medical center project. …working with him (was) a pleasant experience. …He is excellent in following up and following through with tasks, and his proficiency on highly complex projects truly made a difference on our project. He is a proactive leader and would be a valuable asset for any integrated project team.

We turned on the geothermal AC system in June 2011. Overall, very pleased with the system (designed by AWE) We are paying $1800 more/year for electricity but saving $6600/year in oil

(With the geothermal heating & cooling system designed by AWE), So I increased the living space of the house by 30 percent and added summer cooling but reduced my overall utility costs by 26% and my energy costs by 36%.

I have worked with George Hu, the principal of AWE, and his team for approximately two years. Our most significant project has been the renovation and expansion of the Athol Library in Athol, MA. The project is challenging because it is attempting to break new ground as the first historic Carnegie Library (1915) to achieve the USGBC’s highest level of certification, LEED Platinum.
On every occasion, George Hu, has been passionate about the project, professional in his demeanor and very responsive to our needs. George has the sense of ownership to our projects and he is able to build rapport with our clients with a level of expertise that inspires confidence. His innovative approaches provide the type of solutions we have come to rely upon from George. I would highly recommend AWE for your engineering needs especially those challenging projects demanding a very high level of expertise. I will continue to seek AWE to be part of our team on such projects.
